For over six years, the Region Q Workforce Development Board and the Business and Employer Services Team have engaged in developing partnerships with many local-area agencies and employers by organizing county Business and Industry Councils. BICs are strategically located in each county and are connected with economic development partners who assist employers in the process of identifying and connecting with a skilled workforce. While partnering agencies do vary by county, we appreciate all the support and resources they provide us and our participants.  Their endeavors include improving the skills of emerging, and existing workers to meet the demands of our local-area businesses.

Recently, several of the BICs have accepted the challenge of becoming an ACT Work Ready Community (WRC). Being designated as “Work Ready” tells prospective employers that we have a workforce that is certified, through the Career Readiness Certification, and that they are ready for work.  To learn more about WRCs, please visit this link:  https://www.workreadycommunities.org/.  We are happy to say that Region Q has three of our five counties certified:  Beaufort, Hertford and Pitt Counties.  Martin County currently is working on submitting their application.  Plans are under way to assist Bertie County with starting the WRC process.
